What is blood?
The red liquid carrying oxygen to and carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body
What cells does blood contain?
Red blood cells
White blood cells
Plasma
Platelets
What is a specialised feature of a red blood cell?
It has no nucleus to carry a lot of oxygen around the oxygen.
It has a large surface area (biconcave disk) so it can absorb more oxygen
What is the name of the process that makes a cell specialised?
Differentiation
What does a white blood cell do?
Fights against infections
What do platelets do?
Creates blood clots when you have a cut, which leads to scabbing which consequently prevents infections
What does plasma do?
Contains and transport everything that you need eg. nutrients, hormones etc
What is the function of arteries?
Carries oxygenated blood away from the heart and the the cells that need it
What is the function of veins?
Carries deoxygenated blood back to the heart
What is the function of capillaries?
Exchange nutrients with cells and take away waste products
