a class carried out an investigation into the effect that pH has on the ability of amylase to break down carbohydrates. they timed how long it took for the amylase to break down the starch at different pH values between 5 and 11. suggest the reults the class would observe
optimul pH of amylase is around 7 so time taken to breakdown starch will be shotest at pH 7.at pH values lower than 7 it will take the longest time at pH 5 decreasing in time taken untill ph 7. above 7 it will take a longer time to break down the starch and the amylase may stop breaking down strch entirely at pH 11
a student wanted to repeat the experiment on the following day to compare their results. suggest why using the same enzyme solution on two different days would not give comparable results
suggest how the mightve timed how long it took for the amylase to break down the starch
used a stop watch and at small intervals used iodinet o test if starch was present
give one variable the class must control for this experiment to be valid
