Why do you need food?
The amount and type of food you eat greatly affects your health.
What do foods rich in carbohydrates and fats provide?
They provide you with energy to move and stay alive
What do high-protein foods do for your body?
They are used for the growth and repair of body tissues.
What about vitamins and minerals?
You only need a small amount to remain healthy
What is your metabolic rate?
The speed at which chemical reactions in your cells transfer energy from its chemical stores in food. The higher your metabolic rate, the more you need to eat
What are carbohydrates?
Some carbohydrates are polymers. They are made from smaller carbohydrates molecules such as sugars. There are different types of sugars. You use sucrose to make cakes, and there is lactose in milk. Starch is synthesised from glucose monomers
