Bed Pan
is an item of removable bedding
that sits on top of, or encases, a mattress to protect it
Bed Protector
A device used for elimination
when a person is able to get out of bed, but unable to walk to the bathroom; it consists of a chair-like
frame with a toilet seat and a removable collection bucket.
Bedside Commode (BSC)
close-fitting legless underpants that are cut so as to cover the body to the waist, used for persons who are incontinent
Briefs
a removable plate or frame holding one or more artificial teeth
Dentures
a shallow basin of curved, kidneyshaped design, used to collect body fluids or as a container for various other liquids
Emesis Basin
waste matter discharged from the bowels after food has been digested; excrement
Feces
a semi-sitting body position in which a
person’s head and shoulders are elevated 45 to 60 degrees
Fowler’s
a bedpan that is flatter (f) than a regular
bedpan
Fracture Pan
a small, impermeable multilayered sheet with high absorbency that is used as a precaution against urinary incontinence
Incontinence Pad
the inability to control the bladder or
bowels
Incontinence
body position in which a person is lying
on either side
Lateral
moving a person as a unit, without
disturbing the alignment of the body
Log Rolling
used to move those who are unable to stand on their own or whose weight
makes it unsafe to move or lift them manually
Mechanical Lift
helps prevent slipping when
walking or transferring
Non-skid Soles
the movement of a person from one site to another, such as from a bed to a wheelchair, when there is a loss of control of one side of the body or
when one side of the body is immobile
Pivot
body position in which a person is lying on his stomach, or front side of the body
Prone
The position with the person lying
on his back. The head of the bed is raised 30-45 degrees and the knees/feet are raised 10-15 degrees
Semi-Fowler’s
body position in which a person is lying on his left side with the upper knee flexed and raised toward the chest
Sim’s
The semi-solid waste product of digestion.
Stool
Position where the person is lying flat on his back with a pillow under the head. (dorsal, recumbent)
Supine
A collection device used for urination when a man is unable to get out of bed.
Urinal
Inability to hold urine in the bladder due to loss of voluntary control over the urinary sphincters resulting in the involuntary passage of urine

the discharge of urine from the body
