Activities of Daily Living; daily personal
care tasks such as bathing; caring for skin, nails, hair, and teeth; dressing; toileting; eating and drinking; walking; and transferring
Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
cares normally performed in the
morning such as bathing, dressing, breakfast etc.
AM Care
is a frame placed over the body of a
patient in bed for application of heat or cold or for protecting injured parts from coming into contact with the bed clothes
Bed Cradle
Areas of the body where the
bone lies close to the skin.
Bony Prominences
to cut off the foreskin of (a male) or
the prepuce of (a female)
Circumcised
covering the person with blankets or towels leaving exposed only that part of the body that is being cared for.
Drape
an extra sheet placed on top of the bottom sheet; used for moving residents in bed.
Draw/Lift/Transfer Sheet
a weakness of muscles in the feet and
ankles that causes problems with the ability to flex the ankles and walk normally
Foot Drop
the retractable roll of skin covering the
end of the penis
Foreskin
practices to care for oneself, such as
caring for fingernails and hair
Grooming
PM care also known as HS care is
the care provided at night time/before bed-time

practices to keep bodies clean and healthy
Hygiene
the inner and outer folds of the vulva, at either side of the vagina
Labia
the male genital organ of higher vertebrates, carrying the duct for the transfer of sperm during copulation

Perineum
A difficult-to-heal (and possibly fatal) sore that forms when part of the
body presses against a surface for a long period of time, cutting off the oxygen supply to the tissues.
Also called bedsore or decubitus ulcer.
Pressure Injury/Ulcer/Sore
the final section of the large intestine,
terminating at the anus
Rectum
a pouch of skin containing the testicles
Scrotum
rubbing or friction that results from the
skin moving one way and the bone underneath it remaining fixed or moving in the opposite direction
Shearing
: (of a boy or man’s penis) the
foreskin has not been removed
Uncircumcised
is the opening or meatus of the
urethra - the point where urine exits the urethra in males and in females, and also where semen exits
the urethra in males.

the muscular tube leading from the
external genitals to the cervix of the uterus in women
