2
Q

why are homeostatis important in the body

A

because the internal conditions in the body need to be carefully controlled to maintain the optinum enviroment for enzymes and cell fucntions

Q

what are the internal conditions in homeostatins

A
  • body temperature
  • blood glucose level
  • water content

these are regulates by nervous and hormonal control systems

Q

what does a control system include

A
  • receptors (detects stimuli)
  • coordination centre (brain, spinal chord or pancreas, that recieves and processes information from receptors and organises a responce)
  • effectors (muslce, glands, produce a responce to restore the system back to its normal level)

Q

what does the nervous system allow humans to do

allows humans to respond to changes in the enviroment (stimuli) and coordinate behavior

6
Q

how does information travel in the nervous system

A
  • information from receptors travels as electrical impulses via neurons to the central nervous system (CNS - consists of brain and spinal chord where response is coordinated)

Q

what are the connections between neurons called

A

synapses - a nerve impulse is transfered across a synapse by chemicals that diffuse across the gap

Q

what do reflexes do

A
  • very fast
  • automatic responses to a stimulus
  • reduce chance of being injured

Q

what is in a simple reflex

A
  • stimuli are detected by receptors and transmitted to the CNS as nervous impulses via sensory neurons
  • the impulses are transfered via relay neurons in the CNS to a motor neurone, which sends impulses to effectors
  • the effector then produces the responce
