B1 - Connectivity Flashcards
Advantages of a USB stick
- the transfer speed is fast
- can connect many peripherals to a single USB port
- provides power to device
- it is compatible with almost every device that have a USB port
Disadvantages of a USB port
- it has a short range (3 meters)
Advantages of a SATA connector
- fast connection
- all internal storage devices have a SATA connector
Disadvantages of a SATA connector
- shorter range (2 meters)
- doesn’t supply power as connecting a hard drive requires a power connector
Advantages of a VGA cable
- compatible with old devices
- have locking mechanism so it’s securely connected
disadvantages of a VGA cable
- transmits analogue data so the signal can drop easily
- it cannot handle 4k quality
- it cannot transfer audio signal
Advantages of a HDMI cable
- it can handle a lot of bandwidth meaning is has high quality
- audio and video signal can be transmitted
disadvantages of a HDMI cable
- no locking mechanism so it can fall out easily
Advantages of an Ethernet cable
- reliable connection so there is low interference
- the range is 100 meters
- most computers have a Ethernet port
Disadvantages of an Ethernet cable
- limited mobility
- no Ethernet port in phones and it’s becoming not common in laptops
- can’t transfer data over long distances
Advantages of a fibre optic cable
- very fast transfer speeds
- good range as it transfers data over 100km
- secure connection as it has low interference and it can’t be tapped
Disadvantages of a fibre optic cable
- it is very expensive as it is the equipment to run a network
Advantages of infrared
- low interference
Disadvantages of infrared
- transmits only over short distances of up to 5 meters
- needs direct sight (nothing blocking it)
- low data transmission speed
Advantages of a Bluetooth connection
- easy to connect to as its automated
- low interference
- low power consumption as it has a low signal
Disadvantages of a Bluetooth connection
- slow data transfer speed
- poor security connection as others can transfer data to your device
Advantages of a WiFi connection
- fast transfer speeds
- a long range (70 meters)
- low cost for the installation
Disadvantages of a WiFi connection
- it is complex setting up the access point
- security issues if not setting a complex WiFi key
Advantages of a mobile broadband
- internet access available almost everywhere
- easy to use as there’s no setup / configuration
Disadvantages of a mobile broadband
- Expensive
- slower data transfer speeds
