B1:7 Flashcards
What is stimuli?
This is when you need to be able to respond to changes in the environment
What are the two main part to the nervous system?
1) the Central Nervous System (CNS)
2) the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
What is the CNS?
The brain and spinal chord
What is the PNS?
It is the nerves taking information from the sense organs into the CNS, and from the CNS to effectors
What are effectors?
Muscles or glands
What are receptor cells?
They are special receptor cells adapted to detect stimuli
The structure of a receptor cell
It contains a nucleus, cell membrane and cytoplasm like many animal cells
Sense organ - Skin
Pressure
Temperature
Touch
Pain
Sense organ - tongue
Chemicals in food (taste)
Sense organ - nose
Chemicals in air (smell)
Sense organ - eyes
Light (sight)
Sense organ - ears
Sound(hearing)
Balance
What are neurones?
They are information from the receptors that passes as electrical impulses to the brain
