B 2.3 Cell Specialization Flashcards
1
Q
How does differentiation between cells occur?
A
All cells in an organism have the SAME DNA and different expressions of the genes- some being on and others off depending on the type of cell
2
Q
what is cell signaling
A
the transfer of information from one cell to another’s surface and then into it’s nucleus
3
Q
What are morphogens and their functions?
A
Morphogens are signaling molecules that occur in gradients (areas of concentration differences)
3
Q
What is the impact of gradients on gene expression within early-stage embryos?
A
the gradients control the cells into a head and tail, which then result in different genes being expressed in different parts of the embryo, and it’s further development.
