When is the P and POM version of azithromycin supplied?
P: >16 years old
POM: privately or via NHS from GUM clinics, PGDs, family planning clinics, or the NCSP screening programme (<25years old)
What is the Clamelle chlamydia service?
A private service in which test kits are bought from the pharmacy. The patient then posts their kit to the laboratory.
What is detected in the test kit for chlamydia?
It detects the nucleic acid of the chlamydia trachomatis bacterium.
What result is a person at risk of if they perform a test for chlamydia, using the test kit?
A false-positive or false-negative result can occur.
When should Clamelle 500mg tablets (P) be given?
- If the patient is >16 years old
- If they are asymptomatic
- If they tested positive
- To treat the infected persons partner
What should pharmacists who are participating in the Clamelle chlamydia service must always do?
They should record any sale/supply of azithromycin on the Clamelle database.
The patients result should also be logged.
How can a patient avoid a false-negative result for chlamydia testing?
They should purchase a test kit 2 weeks after sexual intercourse.
How can a patient avoid a false-positive result for chlamydia testing?
They should not test again within 6 weeks after their treatment is completed, as their test can still show positive.
Dead DNA could be present which can cause this, otherwise the infection could be eradicated.
How long after chlamydia treatment should patients avoid having sexual intercourse?
Patient must not have sexual intercourse 1 week after their treatment is completed.
What are OTC tranexamic acid 500mg tablets used for?
They are used to reduce heavy menstruation bleeding over several cycles in women.
Who is tranexamic acid 500mg OTC tablets given to?
- > 18 years old

What risk can increase when taking tranexamic acid?
Since it is an anti-fibrinolysis agent, risks of clots can occur.
How many times should tranexamic acid 500mg tablets be taken daily?
It should be taken as 2 500mg tablets TDS, so 6 tablets a day until symptoms are alleviated.
Do not exceed 4 days
When should you refer a patient if they wish to purchase tranexamic acid?
- <18 years old or >45 years old
- Women taking tranexamic acid for 3 cycles, but seeing no difference
- Breastfeeding/pregnant women
- Obese or diabetic women - higher risk of developing clots
- Patients taking oral contraceptives - can increase their clotting risk
- On warfarin or anticoagulants
