Axillary Flashcards
Basillic Vein
Out of bicep, down medial side of arm (Anatomical Position)
Cephalic Vein
Out of detapectoral triangle, distally through deltopectoral groove, down lateral side of arm (anatomical position)
Apex of Axilla
Bounded by:
- Clavicle anteriorly
- Superior border of the scapula posteriorly
- First rib medially
Base of Axilla
Bounded by:
-Skin and fascia in armpit
Anterior Wall
Bounded by:
-Anterior axillary fold, pectoralis minor, clavipectoral fascia.
Posterior Wall
Bounded by:
- Posterior axillary fold
- Subscapularis muscle
Medial Wall
Bounded by:
- Upper portion of thoracic wall
- serratus anterior muscle
Lateral Wall
Bounded by:
-Intertubercular sulcus of humerus
Parts of Axillary Artery
1) Lateral border of 1st rib to medial border of pectoralis minor
Branch: Superior thoracic a.
2)Posterior to the pectoralis minor muscle
Branches: Thoracoacromial a.
Lateral thoracic a.
3) Lateral border of pectoralis minor to the inferior border of the teres major. (Where it becomes brachial)
Branches: ACHA
PCHA
Subscapular a. (largest branch)
Lateral Thoracic Artery
Supplies: pectoralis muscles Serratus anterior axillary lymph nodes lateral portion of breasts (F)
Subscapular Artery
- From 3rd region of Axillary Artery
- Largest branch
- Divides into:
- Circumflex scapular a.
- Thoracodorsal artery (Lat. Dorsi)
Circumflex Humeral Arteries
Posterior (larger) and anterior
-around surgical neck of humerus.

"My APCDs" Axillary Pectoral Clavicular Deltoid
Nerve; Long flexor of finger
Median and Ulnar n.
Principal motor source to all of intrinsic muscles of palm
T1
Pt can’t initiate abduction of arm, which part of BP injured
Superior trunk; suprascapular nerve origin
What nerves will be affected by superior trunk injury?
suprascapular, axillary, musculocutaneous
Suprascapular and axillary: Abdduction, Musculocutaneous: lateral rotation
Subscapulrus primary action
internat rotation of the arm at the shoulder
