Arm (Muscle) Flashcards
Muscles of Anterior Department
Coracobrachialis (crosses only shoulder)
Biceps brachii (long and short head)
Brachialis (crosses only elbow)
Brachioradialis
Not part of ant. compartment but is a flexor of elbow
- Lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm (vs musculocutaneous in ant. comp.)
- radial groove separates the attachment points of the lateral and medial heads
Muscles of posterior compartment
Triceps brachi (long, lateral, medial)
-attach to olecranon of the ulna
Anconeus
-Mostly joint stabilizer and pulls synovial membrane
Forearm Muslces: Anterior Compartment, superficial layer
PFPF
Pronator teres -median n. Flexor carpi radialis -median n. palmaris longis -median n. flexor ularis -ulnar n.
Function:
Pronator teres: Pronate wrist
All others flex wrist when working together
Come off medial epicondyl
Intermediate Layer of Muscles
Fl. digitorum superficialis
-Fingers 2-5
Deep layer of muscles
Flexor Pollicis Longus
- Flexes thumb
- median n.
Pronator quadratus
- pronates hand
- median n
Flexor digitorum profundus
- flexes finers
- median and ulnar nn.
Rotators of radius
Supinator Pronator teres Pronator quadratus -Initiates pronation -Assisted by teres -Helps hold radius and ulna together
Superficial Muscles wrist extensors
Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus
Extensor Carpi Radialis
Extensor Carpi Ulnaris
Together they extend wirst
Superficial Muscles: Forearm and phalange movers
Brachioradialis
Extensor digitorum
extensor digiti minimi
5 Deep muscles (posterior)
Anconeus
–joint stabilizer
Supinator
-supinates the forearm. (with biceps brachii)
Abductor Pollicis Longus
-Thumbs up muscle
Extensor Pollicis Brevis
Etensor Pollicis Longus
-move your thumb out and dorsally, particularly the longus.
Extensor Indicis
-Extent index finger
