autumn midterm; class II amalgam Flashcards
what are the types of tofflemeier bands
1 universal
what does the small knob at the end of the tofflemeier do
inserts screw into block
what does the larger knob on the tofflemeier do
raises the “backward c” part
when matrix band is going onto tooth, which circumference should be larger
occlusal is larger
how do you put the matrix band into the tofflemeier
insert both free ends of the band into the slot in the blokc, then tighten the small nob (brings up the screw)
- put it around the burnishing band to make it smooth and rounded
- c open face is down. second slot for matrix is not used for posterior teeth. after placing on tooth use the large knurled knob to tighten the loop
where should you place the tofflemeier for posteriors
Should be on buccal side but CAN be lingual if there are missing buccal cusps. but it intereferes with anterior teeth. q
where do you place the wedge?
usually into the largest embrasure which IDEALly is lingual side (so coming in from the lingual)
how hihg should the matrix band extend when placed above the marginal ridge?
should be at least 1 mm higher than intended marginal ridge
what are the advantages and disadvantages to the tofflemire matrix
advantages: can be used if teeth are still in proximal contact. can be used if tooth has missing cusps
disadvantages: produces a cone shaped restoration with a large gingival embrasure. creates a pinpoint proximal contact.
how doyou remove the toff. retainer
loosen small knob
then remove band (cotton pleyers)-.
use condensor on the marginal ridge to prevent breakage- remove band at an angle or rotate towards tallest proximal wall
how do you clear gingivall buccal and lingual margins of amalgam filledbox? occlusal embrasures?
with a hollenback
how tall should the marginal ridge of amalgam filling be
same as adjacent marginal ridge
