Autopilot Flashcards
What flight control surfaces are controlled by the autopilot?
The right aileron & left elevator
How many flight directors are installed in the CRJ-700?
Two
How can the pilots switch from the active FD to the standby FD?
By selecting the XFR pushbutton on the FCP
If the Autopilot is off, what happens to the Flight Directors if the on-side (active) FD button is pressed on the Flight Control Panel (FCP)?
The command bars and the vertical and lateral mode information will be removed from both PFD’s
If the Autopilot is on, what happens to the Flight Directors if the on-side (active) FD button is pressed on the FCP?
Nothing
If the Autopilot is off, what happens to the Flight Director if the off-side (stby) FD button is pressed on the FCP?
The command bars will be removed from the off-side PFD
If the Autopilot is on, what happens to the Flight Director if the off-side (stby) FD button is pressed on the FCP?
Nothing
What does the left side of the cyan line of the FMA indicate to the pilots?
The active modes of the Flight Director
What does the right side of the cyan line of the FMA indicate to the pilots?
The standby or armed modes of the Flight Director
What is the function of the two green Flight Control Computer (FCC) status indicator lights?
They indicate that each of the two FCC’s have determined that conditions are right for the selected mode.
What will occur upon depression of the button in the center of the course knob?
This cause the course pointer and digital readout to indicate the zero deviation course to the tuned VOR station.
What is the function of the Flight Director Synchronization switch located on the back of the control yoke?
It synchronizes the Flight Director command bars to the vertical and lateral aircraft values present at the time of selection.
What is the function of the Takeoff / Go-Around (TOGA) switches located on the thrust levers?
They arm the lateral and vertical takeoff and go-around Flight Director modes
What is the function of the lateral Go-Around mode (GA)?
It generates a heading hold command with a five degree bank angle authority
What is the function of the lateral Half Bank mode (1/2 BANK)?
It limits the FD roll commands to 15 degrees of bank angle
How can ½ bank mode be selected from the cockpit?
By selecting the ½ BANK pushbutton on the FCP
When is ½ bank mode automatically activated and deactivated?
- Automatically activated when climbing through 31,600 feet
- Automatically deactivated when descending through 31,600 feet or when capturing approach mode or the localizer
What will happen to the vertical Takeoff mode (TO/TO) during an engine failure?
The pitch-up command is rescheduled from the normal 15 degrees to 10 degrees
What will be the indication if a new altitude is set above the actual altitude and the speed button is pressed?
CLB mode is displayed on the FMA
What will be the indication if a new altitude is set below the actual altitude and the speed button is pressed?
DES mode is displayed on the FMA
Will the climb rate go to a negative number if the target airspeed is increased while in CLB mode?
No
Will the climb rate go to a negative number if the target airspeed is increased while in IAS mode?
Yes
How is entry into IAS mode accomplished from the cockpit?
By a second press of the SPEED pushbutton
Will the descent rate go to a positive number if the target speed is decreased while in DES mode?
No
Will the descent rate go to a positive number if the target speed is decreased while in IAS mode?
Yes
What engagement parameters must be met in order to activate the autopilot?
- Two flight directors
- Two flight control computers
- One operational stabilizer trim channel
- One operational yaw damper
- No significant instability of the aircraft exists
How is the autopilot engagement indicated on the PFD?
A green AP in the upper left corner
