Autophagy and HIV Flashcards
1
Q
What is autophagy?
A
Autophagy is a lysosomal degradation pathway.
There first is enclosure of the membrane around the pathogen, which fuses with lysosomes that degrade the pathogen.
2
Q
Which signal molecules are needed for autophagy?
A
The autophagosome needs to be coated with LC3II, the pathogen with ubiquitin (tagged by E3 ligases). Then the autophagy receptors bind as a bridge between ubiquitin and LC3II.
3
Q
Which E3 ligase in Langerhans cells ubiquitinates HIV-1?
A
TRIM5a, which binds the HIV-1 p24 capsid after HIV-1 fusion with the cell.
