Emergency/Humanitarian aid
Rapid assistance given to people or countries in immediate distress to relieve the suffering during and after emergencies such as wars and natural disasters.
How is emergency/humanitarian provided?
- provides necessities such as food, clothing, healthcare and shelter
Bilateral aid
Aid provided by the government of one country to the government of another country.
How is bilateral aid provided?
- funds large infrastructure projects
- fund small community based-programs
- building schools and providing educational programs.
Multilateral aid
Aid provided through international organisations such as the World Bank, UN and WHO - they combine donations from many countries and use them to support the countries in need.
How is multilateral aid provided?
By addressing global issues such as climate change, control of communicable diseases and major infrastructure projects.
What are NGO’s
They are non-profit organisations that work to promote h+w and human development, operating separately from governments, however they often rely on funding from the Australian government.
Advantages of the NGOs
- Focuses on small community-based projects targeted to specific needs of a community.
- Often have strong connections with local communities, meaning that trust is already established.
- Can often access areas that others don’t or can’t reach, such as remote and conflict-affected areas.
