ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOR CHANGE Flashcards
Theory of Planned Behavior
Extends the Theory of Reasoned Action by including perceived behavioral control, or how easy or difficult one perceives the behavior to be.
Cognitive Dissonance Theory
Occurs when people experience discomfort from holding contradictory beliefs or attitudes. They may change their beliefs or justify their behavior to reduce the discomfort.
Stages of Change (Transtheoretical Model)
Describes the stages individuals go through when modifying behavior: precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and relapse.
Attitudes vs. Beliefs
Attitudes are learned tendencies to respond positively or negatively to a subject, while beliefs are assumptions or convictions forming the basis for attitudes.
Theory of Constructed Emotion
Emotions are not universal but constructed based on physical responses, cultural background, and social context. They are shaped by individual environments and experiences.
