What happens in the cognitive component
Reflects our beliefs, knowledge, thoughts and ideas to an attitude object or situation
What happens in the affective component
Emotional response or feeling
Past experience: positive feelings
What happens in the behavioural component
Intended or actual behaviour towards an object
Based on the evaluation of the first 2 components
What are the common characteristics of an attitude
They are
- Positive or negative
- Stable or enduring
- Focused on a particular item or object or situation
- Evaluative, subjective or beliefs
How are attitudes formed
Stereotyped opinions leading to discrimination and prejudice

Attitudes are beliefs / values / feelings / behaviour linked to an attitude object (or equivalent)
