developing personality traits by learning and associating with others
Explain the 3 parts of the triadic model
- Cognitive - your beliefs, knowledge and thoughts.
- Affective - your feelings and emotional responses.
- Behavioural - your actions or intended behaviour.
What is cognitive dissonance?
A challenge to existing beliefs causing disharmony in an individual and a motivation to change attitudes. It is settled by resolving the conflict.
What is the process of cognitive dissonance? (triadic model)
Cognitive - give new information/education
Affective - create new emotions/fun/feeling of safety
Behavioural - give success/reinforcement
What is persuasive communication?
An effective way of communication to promote change
Ways of successful communication
- Message needs to be understood.
- Quality new information.
- Situation/time when message is given is important.
- New info should outweigh old beliefs to allow a change in attitude.
- Message should be given by someone with high status/role model to have a better effect.
How can negative attitudes be changed to positive?
- Allow early success.
- Make it fun when training.
- Use positive reinforcement and rewards.
- Pointing out benefits of exercise.
- Use role models.
- Cognitive dissonance.
