Attachment (B Monotropy Theory) Flashcards
What does it emphasis?
- Innate
- Concept of monotropy
- Continuity hypothesis
- Critical period existence
Explain why it emphasises it’s innateness?
.Mother & infant have biological need to stay in constant contact
. Behaviours ensuring it = smiling, crying
.promotes survival/reproductive success
Why do we form attachment?
Because aids in our survival
Explain why it emphasises the concept of monotropy?
.innate tendency to become attached strongly to one specific individual
.infants do have many relationships but 1 is more important then the others
.father has indirect values (economic support for the mother)
Explain why it emphasises the IWM & continuity hypothesis?
.first relationship forms a template for their future relationships as a child develops a set of beliefs (e.g worthy of love or not)
Explain why it emphasises the critical period?
.First 3 years, if attachment not made within the time period = difficult/impossible to form attachment
