secure attachment
allows an emotional bond between the infant and primary caregiver, can be called healthy attachment, allowing infant to form string relationships with others as adults
emotional development
generally speaking secure attachment usually leads to healthy emotional development
factor affecting attachment
Genetics - most caregivers will want to respond to their child needs
Temperament - easy or difficult temperament, making it more or less likely to form strong attachment
Life experiences - positive early life experiences as more likely to develop secure attachment

to investigate how long the monkeys spend with either the wire mother or cloth mother, determining attachment showed by infants is based on food or close contact

Infants explore the unfamiliar room, infant was quiet and sad when mother left, was happy to see mother return
ainsworth - avoidant insecure attachment (type A)
22% of infants showed this style
Infants show no interest when separated from mother, will happily interact with strangers, and ignores/barely notices mother when she returns
ainsworth - resistant insecure attachment (type C)
12% of infants showed this style
Infants showed distress when separated from mother and significant feat of strangers, when mother returns infants approaches but avoid contacts
