Atrial dysrhythmias Flashcards
Atrial fibrillation
rapid, disorganized electrical activity- ectopic atrial pacers replace the normal SA node pacer. Atria quiver, leading to potential thrombus formation.
Atrial fibrillation rate
can be slow (120)
Atrial fibrillation rhythm
irregular
Atrial fibrillation p wave
not present- replaced by fibrillatory waves
Atrial fibrillation QRS
normal
Atrial fibrillation ST
some depression
Atrial fibrillation T
may be inverted
Atrial fibrillation causes
long standing HTN, valve disease, HF, CAD, sick sinus syndrome, Pericarditis, Post CABG,, hyperthyroidism
Atrial fibrillation effects
can be asymptomatic, or can have heart palpitations, SOB, dizziness, syncope, angina
Atrial fibrillation treatment
Rate control drug: diltiazam, verapamil, digoxin, metoprolol. And, anticoagulation: ASA for low risk, Warfarin for high risk or Pradaxa/Xarelto. Can also do direct current cardioversion (anti coagulate before), radio ablation or install a permanent pacemaker.
Atrial flutter rate
atrial rate is fast (PP) and ventricular rate is slow (RR)
atrial flutter P wave
characteristic saw-tooth appearance
atrial flutter QRS
normal
