ADS provides essentially the same information to ATC as they would have if the aircraft was in ______ ______.

  • The downlinks occur ________ and are ________ to the crew.
  • ADS requires ___ ______from the crew, as it is ________ by ATC
  • The ________ and the ________ of the downlinks are defined by ATC to satisfy their operational needs.

Describe the benefits of the ADS system, and recall if the crew is aware of when reports are being sent.

Automatic Dependant Surveillance (ADS) automatically downlinks:

  • position, speed, heading, altitude and other pertinent data to ATC in areas where no radar coverage exists.

ADS provides essentially the same information to ATC as they would have if the aircraft was in radar contact.

  • The downlinks occur automatically and are transparent to the crew.
  • ADS requires no action from the crew, as it is initiated by ATC
  • The content and the frequency of the downlinks are defined by ATC to satisfy their operational needs.
  • There is no way for the crew to know when a downlink occurs.
