What is asthma
A
- Chronic disorder of the conducting airways
- Usually caused by an immunological reaction, marked by episodic bronchoconstriction
- increased sensitivity to various stimuli
- inflammatio of bronchial walls
- increased mucous secretion
- wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, cough

Atopic asthma
A
Triggered by environmental allergens, type 1 IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reaction

Non-atopic asthma
A
Typically virus-induced inflammation lowers threshold to irritants

Drug-induced asthma
A
Salicylate (aspirin)-induced is a typical example

Occuptional asthma
A
Exposure to fumes

Hormonal asthma
A
When you grow up and you no longer have asthma- same with chronic bronchitis

Diagnosis
A
Persistent cough, wheezing, shortness of breath- stethoscope for breathing, spirometry-lung function test.

Management
A
- Short acting B2 agonist
- Inhaled corticosteroid
