It is important not to stack boards on top of each other because there is a possibility that you could accidentally dislodge a chip.
Why is it important to remove loose jewelry before working inside a computer case?
It is important to remove loose jewelry that might get caught in cables and components as you work. Jewelry is also made of metal and might conduct electricity if it touches a component.
When assembling a desktop computer, which do you install first, the drives or the motherboard?
When you assemble a desktop computer it is generally recommended to install the drives before the motherboard.
What is the purpose of raised screw holes or standoffs installed between the motherboard and desktop case?
The purpose of standoffs is to ensure that the board does not touch the case.
When installing the front panel wires to the motherboard front panel header, how do you know which pins to use for each wire if the pins on the header are not labeled?
It is advised to label every header that is used on the board one by one to include the type of cable and where the cable connects.

Why are laptops usually more expensive than desktop computers with comparable power and features?
Laptops are usually more expensive than desktop computers due to the portability, weight reductions and overall space reduction.
Why is the service manual so important to have when you disassemble a laptop?
The service manual is very important when disassembling a laptop or all in one computer because you’ll need to know how to open the case and replace the internal components.
When a laptop internal device fails, what three options can you use to deal with the problem?
- Check to see if your warranty is still active, if so then contact the company to inquire about potential repair. *Disable the component and use an external peripheral device in its place.
- Read the manual and see if the component could be replaced, if so verify the price of the new component to see if it would be more cost efficient to replace the laptop instead.
After you have removed the AC adapter and all peripherals, what is the next component you should always remove before servicing any internal laptop components?
The next component to remove is the battery pack.
You disassemble and reassemble a desktop computer. When you first turn it on, you see no lights and hear no sounds. Nothing appears on the monitor screen. What is the most likely cause of the problem? Explain your answer.
d. Power cords to the motherboard are not connected. The power cords to the motherboard are not connected properly. All of the other possibilities wouldn’t stop the computer from booting.
You are looking to buy a laptop on a budget and want to save money by not purchasing an extended service agreement with the manufacturer beyond the first year. What should you consider when choosing manufacturers to limit your search? Which manufacturers would you choose and why?
I think it is important to find a manufacturer that has a well established support system in place as well as a widely accepted list of components for replacement parts. I would personally chose a laptop from Lenovo or Dell because both are affordable and if they’re taken care of properly, they can last a very long time.
A four-year-old laptop will not boot and presents error messages on screen. You have verified with the laptop technical support that these error messages indicate the motherboard has failed and needs replacing. What is the first question you should ask yourself before performing the repair?
d. Is the laptop still under warranty?
