Explain the meaning of a person centred approach
A person centred approach is just that - making the person the centre of their care. This means getting them involved, them telling us with what they want, what they prefer, supporting them and working with them not just deciding everything for them.
Three principles that support a person centred approach?
Sharing responsibility/power
Getting to know the person so as to support them in the best way
Being flexible/accessible
Three examples of applying a person centred approach in your personal care assistant role?
Building rapport and trust with client
Get to know the client so as to know the best ways to care for them
Question how they are being cared for and make sure this is the way they prefer
What is rights based approach?
Rights based approach puts the clients rights at the centre of the clients care; making sure they know their rights, and are empowered to speak up while the carers uphold their rights and are protect their rights.
Provide two ways you can use the rights based approach in your work:
By making sure the client has quality care which is their right; making sure I care for them in a way they prefer and to the best standard possible
By making sure care is accessible to all residents, as is everyone’s right; making sure all residents receive the care they need regardless of their culture.
Informed consent is important. Provide one example how this right could be reflected in your practice:
By making sure my client has all the information available to them and make sure they understand so that they can make an informed decision about their care. This could mean giving resident different options for care and having them make the decision on which they prefer.

Professional boundaries is in regards to lines that are inappropriate to cross. Professional boundaries are there for a reason and they need to be kept in place or the lines may become blurred.
Provide three examples of behaviour that may breach your professional boundaries:
Accepting gifts/money
Taking personal phone calls from clients/going places with them socially
Telling other residents about their fellow residents or their carers, this includes: personal information/things told in confidence
