Where did assemblies originate from?
Royal courts of the old. Processes of consultation began to expand between the crown and leading corporate/regional figures.
Why were assemblies born?
The crown needed crowd support for money, wars, legitimacy
How did assemblies become the foundations for modern democracy?
At first democracy was legislative, elites and then the masses began to plea their complaints and demands which would build up to the legislative machinery we have today.
How have legislation systems of the old days weakened?
Modern democratic institutions and executives now run the show along with legislatives.
What are unicameral and bicameral assemblies?
Unicameral - the people or the majority run the show
Bicameral - sober second thoughts by the elites especially on expansive topics on regional division (language, culture)
What other functions do assemblies have?
Oversight and scrutiny of the executive.
What are the purpose of comitees?
Proportional representation massive modern assemblies by appointed legislators.
Why have assemblies declined?
Overwhelmed by power of parties, states, the media, interest groups and their own organizational weaknesses.
What important contributions do assemblies make?
Representing the people, holding executives accountable, training tomorrow’s leaders, and mobilizing consent for the regime as whole
