Article 1
Establishes: The Legislative Branch
Powers (section 8):
Enumerated-powers not listed in the constitution, power to collect tax, coin money, and declare war.
Implied-powers that the legislature can claim as part of its lawmaking responsibilities.
Necessary and Proper Clause/Elastic Clause- can “stretch” the constitution in its favor
Denied powers (section 9):
Habeas Corpus-the right of accused persons to be brought before a judge to hear the charges against them.
*Cannot grant titles of nobility
Article 2
Establishes: Executive branch Powers: -enforce the laws passed by congress -nominates Judges (including Supreme Court) -Make treaties -propose federal budget -authorize military
Article 3
Establishes:
judicial branch
Article 4
4 sections
Faith and full credit: each state must honor the laws and court decisions of other states.
Treatment of citizens: you stay made to screw me against the residence of another state
New territories. Only Congress can authorize the creation of new states
Protection of states. The national government guarantees each state republican form of government. Promises to protect states from outside attacks
Article 5
Explains the amendment process. Spells out the ways such amendments can be proposed
Article 6
- National government agrees to repay all of the depths that were incurred under the articles of Confederation
- supremacy clause: Federal law supersedes all states and local laws

Explains the ratification process of the Constitution
