Arthrokinematics Flashcards
Hip Abduction-
convex femur glides inferiorly on the concave acetabulum
Hip Adduction-
convex femur glides superiorly on the concave acetabulum
Hip Flexion-
convex femur spins posteriorly on the concave acetabulum
Hip Extension-
convex femur spins anteriorly on the concave acetabulum
Hip lateral rotation-
glides anteriorly
Hip medial rotation-
glides posteriorly
Knee open chain flexion-
-glides posteriorly and rotates medially
Knee open chain extension-
glides anteriorly and rotates laterally
Knee closed chain flexion-
- glides anteriorly, rolls posteriorly and rotates laterally
Knee closed chain extension-
glides posteriorly, roll anteriorly and rotates medially
Dorsiflexion closed chain-
- the concave tibia glides anteriorly on the convex talus
Dorsiflexion open chain-
the convex talus glides posteriorly on the concave tibia
Plantarflexion open chain-
convex talus glides anteriorly on the convex tibia
Plantarflexion closed chain-
concave tibia glides posteriorly on the convex talus
Shoulder abduction-
- the convex head of the humerus glides inferiorly, rolls superiorly, and
slightly rotates laterally on the concave glenoid fossa. The distal end (elbow) moves superiorly in
the frontal plane
Shoulder adduction-
the convex humerus glides superiorly on the concave glenoid fossa
Shoulder flexion-
convex head of the humerus glides posteriorly and inferiorly on the
concave glenoid fossa
Shoulder Extension-
convex humeral head glides anteriorly and superiorly on concave glenoid fossa
Shoulder internal/medial rotation-
convex humeral head glides posteriorly on
the concave glenoid fossa
Shoulder external/lateral rotation-
convex humeral head glides anteriorly on
the concave glenoid fossa
Wrist flexion-
-Convex proximal row of carpals glides posteriorly on the concave distal radius and
articular disk
Wrist extension-
-Convex proximal row of carpals glides anteriorly on the concave distal radius
and articular disk
Ulnar deviation-
-Convex proximal row of carpals glides laterally on the concave distal radius and
articular disk
Radial deviation-
Convex proximal row of carpals glides medially on the concave distal radius
and articular disk
