Q

4 sections of internal carotid artery

A
  1. cervical: runs up in the neck
  2. petrous: enters skull through carotid canal, ascends short distance, curves anteriorly and medially
  3. cavernous: enters cavernous sinus, goes forward along medial wall beside sphenoid bone, exits roof of sinus b/t CNII and CNIII
  4. cerebral: exits cavernous sinus and gives off terminal cerebral branches

Q

ophthalmic artery course

A

travels anteriorly ->
enters orbit via optic canal within dural sheath of ON ->
emerges from dural sheath of ON ->
courses inferolateral to the ON ->
crosses above or below ON ->
travels medially ->
travels anteriorly b/t MR and SO to give off terminal branches

Q

lacrimal artery course

A

enters orbit ->
branches from ophthalmic artery ->
courses anteriorly along upper border of lateral rectus ->
supplies lacrimal gland ->
pierces orbital septum ->
enter UL&LL as lateral palpebral arteries ->
anastomose w/ medial palpebral arteries ->
form palpebral arcades ->
supply eyelids and palpebral & forniceal conjunctiva
