  2. Built on place where St. Peter was killed and became a martyr

  2. arch in bottom of photo should be continuous arch and not broke (roman standards) but they intentionally broke the arch to make it more dramatic and hold viewers attention

  1. Hard to understand Pieta’s, ambiguous because there are certain key elements missing if it were to be one particular scene
  2. has guy kneeling in an impossible position, ignores anatomy to show off mannerism art
  3. Christ is in the same pose as other artworks
    (arm is hanging loose at his side , head facing the sky, he is limp, being carried), also looks light as a feather

  1. Cellini’s work was only viewed from front because Perseus is holding medusa’s head to michelangelo’s david, kind of compared himself to michelangelo
  2. Cellini wanted to pull off a full bronze wax casting in one piece to show how good of an artist he was
  3. Statue was an underdog symbol for him and the commissioner, the Duke of Florence, proved they could do what others said they couldn’t

  2. meant to be shown from a 360 degree view, which had really never been done before

  2. Arnolfini painting shows merchants are making more money, can now afford to commission artwork
  3. Northern renaissance painting have something that is very relatable to place it was commissioned (furniture from their own house in Arnolfini)

  2. Hard to know who the main subject is because using different techniques like one point perspective and looking at the center of the canvas gives different answers
  3. Considered great because it makes you think who the portrait about and why Velazquez decided to put himself in it, still a debate to this day

  3. It was scandalous for its time because it was far from the norm at that time and it went in the holiest church on Earth (Lots of nudity, originally all were nude)
