Arousal Flashcards
What is arousal?
A state of readiness to perform
What does the drive theory state?
The more you are arousal, the better your performance will be. Arousal is directly proportionate to better performance
Dominant Response
The dominant response is intensified as arousal increases. The dominant response is a response that is most likely to occur in a given situation.
The inverted U theory
The ‘inverted U’ theory proposes that sporting performance improves as arousal levels increase but that there is a threshold point. Any increase in arousal beyond the threshold point will worsen performance.
What is the catastrophe theory?
This theory suggests that increased arousal improved performance to an optimal point but there is a dramatic reduction in performance beyond this point
Define the term Attentional narrowing

The term attentional wastage means…
