A
  • effectively the development of cysts within the subarachnoid space producing focal compression of the adjacent spinal cord

Prevalence

A
  • rare
  • but appear to be more common in the French Bulldog and Pug, and so are becoming more common

  • constrictive myelopathy (has a similar aetiology)

Presentation

A
  • progressive focal spinal cord dysfunction
  • usually proprioceptive ataxia progressing to paraparesis
  • can also affect the cervical spine causing tetraparesis

  • surgical
  • but may respond to trial anti-inflammatory doses of corticosteroids if surgical is not feasible
