April 4 Flashcards
Dependent variable
Value depends on the independent variable
Independent variable
The variable whose values are independent of changes in the values of other variables
Representative sample
The population is divided into strata and a random sample is taken from each stratum
Representativeness
correlation evident between a sample of a population in the population from which it is taken, meaning the sample accurately reflects the population at large
Representativeness allows samples to accurately reflect the population
Correlation research
Investigate relationships between variables
Internal validity
The only variable influencing the results of the study is the one being manipulated by the researcher
External validity
Extent to which results of the study can be generalized or extended to others
Descriptive statistics
Aim to summarize a sample, rather than use the data to learn about the population sample of data is thought to represent
Inferential statistics
Process of drawing conclusions from data that are subject to random variation
