A
A method to determine the health of newborns immediately after birth by allocating scores to 5 criteria at the 1 & 5 minute marks

A - Appearance (Colour) P - Pulse (HR) G - Grimace (Relfex irritability) A - Activity (Muscle tone) R - Respiration (Breathing)

What do the following ranges indicate?
0-3 ; 4-7 ; 8-10

Zero to two (0-2)
0-3 = Severe distress 4-7 = Moderate distress 7-10 = absence of difficulty adjusting to extrauterine life

Outline the APGAR scores
A
A: 0 - blue/pale; 1 - pink, extremitiesblue; 2 - all pink
P: 0 - absent; 1 - <100; 2 - >100
G: 0 - nil; 1 - grimace; 2 - vigorous cough
A: 0 - limp; 1 - some flexion/extension; 2 - active
R: 0 - absent; 1 - slow/irreg; 2 - good cry
