Aortic Arches Flashcards
What are the aortic arches also known as
Pharyngeal arches
What are the pharyngeal arches seperated by
Pharyngeal clefts
How many aortic arches are there
6 arches
What is each arch associated with
A cranial nerve
How many pharyngeal clefts are there
4
What does the 1st pharyngeal cleft give rise to
The external auditory meatus
What happens to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pharyngeal clefts
They become temporary cervical sinuses but are obliterated by the rapidly proliferating 2nd arch
What are the 2 parts of the 1st pharyngeal arch
Maxillary prominence and the mandibular prominence
What does the maxillary prominence become
It it the future maxilla, zygomatic bone and part of the temporal bone
What does the mandibular prominence become
Future mandible
What does the artery of the 1st pharyngeal arch become
It becomes the terminal branch of the maxillary artery
What is the cranial nerve associated with the 1st pharyngeal arch
The trigeminal nerve, cranial nerve V
What are the 2 arteries associated with the 2nd pharyngeal arch
The stapedial artery and the hyoid artery
What does the stapedial artery become
It connects the embryonic precursors for the internal carotid, the internal maxillary and the middle meningeal arteries
What does the hyoid artery give rise to
The corticotympanic artery
