Define Anxiety
Negative mood state characterized by bodily symptoms of physical tension and by apprehension about the future
What is fear?
An immediate alarm reaction to danger
Define panic
Experiencing the alarm response of fear when there is nothing to be afraid of
Define a panic attack
An abrupt experience of intense fear or acute discomfort, accompanied by physical symptoms

An irrational fear of a specific object or situation that markedly interferes with an individuals ability to function

Characterized by children’s unrealistic and persistent worry that something will happen to their parents or themselves when apart

Extreme/irrational concern about being negatively evaluated by other people

Fear of offending others or making them uncomfortable
What are Beta Blockers?
They reduce autonomic arousal
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?
Exposed to trauma, continued re-experiencing through nightmares, memories and flashbacks
Define acute stress disorder
Similar to PTSD, occurring within the first month after the trauma, different name emphasizes the severe reactions that some people have immediately

Reliving emotional trauma to relieve suffering
What is an adjustment disorder?
Anxious or depressive reactions to life stress that are generally milder than PTSD and acute stress disorder
What is an attachment disorder?
Disturbed and developmentally inappropriate behaviors in children, in which, the child is unwilling or unable to form normal attachment relationships with care-giving adults
