Failure to speak in select social situations
What is important in diagnosing a phobia?
The pt must recognize that the fear is excessive
Tx: Systematic desensitization
Discuss Social Anxiety Disorder
Pts fear unfamiliar people or scrutiny by others; Scared of being embarrased
Discuss Panic disorder
Unexpected and recurrent panic attacks at least once a month with worry of future attacks. May develop maladaptive changes in behavior
ALWAYS LOOK FOR DEPRESSION
Discuss Agoraphobia
Fear of public places b/c escape might be difficult; NEED AT LEAST 6 month onset

What is the main requirment for OCD?
Must be severe enough to cause dysfunction

Distress is out of proportion to the stressor. Occurs within 3 Months of the stressor
