how do generalised anxiety disorder, panic and specific phobias differ?

A

Anxiety disorder

Distress, persistent anxiety or dysfunctional anxiety-reducing behaviours

generalised
- continuously tense and uneasy
- autonomic nervous system arousal leak out (trembling, fidgeting, perspiration, twitching eyelids)
- free floating (not linked to a specific stressor)
-mellow at 50 and becomes rare

panic Disorder
- experience of panic attacks
- sudden intense dread
- fear of the next attack
- higher chance of developing agoraphobia (fear of avoidance of public situations)

specific phobia
- intensely and irrationally afraid of something
