Excessive worry Heightened tension Irritability Restlessness Trouble sleeping / concentrating
Diagnosis of GAD
> 6 months
Cause significant distress / impairs life
Mx of GAD
Psychological SSRI SNRI Pregabalin TCAs
Nutritional therapy
Useful for all anxiety disorders
Vit D3 required for conversion of Tryptophan to 5HT
Panic disorder
Recurrent unforeseen panic attacks
Followed by at least 1 month of persistent worry
Diagnosis of panic disorder
At least 2 unexpected attacks
Mx of panic disorders
One of:
- CBT
- SSRI
Phobia definition
Persistent, inappropriate fear of specific situation
Social anxiety disorder
Often begins in early teens
Substance misuse common as self medication
Fear of being centre of attention
Mx social anxiety disorder
CBT

Clomipramine (TCA)

Re-experiencing events
Hyper-vigilance
Numbing of normal emotions
Often EtOH excess
Mx PTSD
