What is anxiety?

A

A negative aspect of stress which is characterised by irrational thinking,loss of conc and fear of failure

What are the two types of anxiety

A

Trait anxiety- which is innate and is the personality trait, consistent,stable. E.g player worrying before all games or anxious behaviour all the time. High trait anxiety means performer is more likely to have higher state anxiety.

State- it is situation dependent and a temporary rush of anxiety. It caused by threatening circumstances. E.g taking a penalty

A

Performer is naturally anxious in all sporting situations

A

What is somatic anxiety ?

A

Similar to inverted U where it increases performance till a certain point then it decreases. Examples would be increased HR.

A

It is physiological- shaking,muscular tension, poor co-ordination, sweating, increased HR
