- Neural circuitry involving the amygdala and hippocampus
- The amygdala regulates anxiety and fear, stimulating the HPA axis and sympathetic nervous system
- The hippocampus regulates emotional memory along with the amygdala
- Decreased GABA level in the cortex
- GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter
