  • a person with high trait anxiety may react to situations with apprehension or tension
  • innate
  1. Competitive trait anxiety
  • a tendency to perceive competitive situations as threatening
  • respond to these situations with feelings of apprehension or tension
  1. State anxiety
  • the athletes emotional state at any given time
  • varies from situation to situation
