Describe a panic disorder and it’s interventions.
Recurring severe panic attacks
sudden onset of extreme apprehension or fear
Encourage patient to take slow, deep breaths
Keep expectations minimal
Teach patient abdominal breathing
Teach patient to reframe anxiety by using positive self-talk: “I can control my anxiety”
What is necrophobia?
Fear of death
What is brontophobia?
Fear of thunder & lightening
What is Mysophobia?
Fear of germs/dirt
What is Emetophobia?
Fear of vomit
What is agoraphobia?
Fear of open spaces/crowds
What is aerophobia?
Fear of flying
What is Acrophobia?
Fear of heights
What is social phobia?
Social anxiety disorder

Describe Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Worried about small or large concerns that is out of proportion to the impact of the event
inability to relax, restlessness & feeling on edge
Mind “goes blank” difficult to concentrate
distress about or fear of making decisions
Describe Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
Obsessions: thoughts, images, impulses that persist and recur
Compulsions**: Ritualistic behaviors an individual feels driven to perform in an attempt to reduce anxiety
