What sort of receptors does flu need?
Sialic acid
What are PAMPs?
Pathogen-associated molecular patterns
What are 3 antiviral methods?
- Blocks steps in the process through which viruses reproduce
- Stimulate the immune system
- Target host cell components that the virus requires.
What is a lentivirus?
A slowly replicating retrovirus
What does HIV do to cells?
Binds to CD4 receptors on T-cells and causes apoptosis of uninfected bystander cells. Cell-mediated immunity is lost.
What is HAART?
Highly active anti-retroviral therpy.
What does HIV treatment combine?
RTIs and proteinase inhibitors.
