For how long has antisemitism existed
It goes back 2000 years to the roman times. As christianity became the pfficial religion of the empire, judaism became a rival religion and some early christians wrongly claimed that the jews had killed jesus
What happened to the jews more or less after the roman empire fell
By 1000CE almost everyone in europe was christian, jews became targets and became demonised
What was jewish life like in the early middle ages
William the conqueror encouraged jews to settle in the country and were given protection by the king however in the 1100s jews were wrongly accused of murdering jewish children and voilemce across the country increased
What happened to somejews in the north
1190 in york 150 jews were trapped in a tower and died
What persecution did they face in the middle ages
In 1290 king edward I ordered all jews to leave the country and england became the first country to expel jewish people. It wasnt u til 1655 that these laws were removed
What happened to jews during the black death
Jews were burnt alive in france 1348 being acused if the black death
What examples of antisemitism were there
In 1290, the king of england amd his advisors hanged more than 250 of them in 3 years. They were apparantly greedy and more wealthier than other english people.
Bad harvests in 1885 russia were blamed on jews and were beaten and forced to leave
What was the holocaust
The genocide of european jews in ww2, between 1939 and 1945 germany and its collaborators killed arround 6 million jews, lver 2/3 of the jewish population
