Antigen Presenting Cells Flashcards
What are three professional antigen presenting cells?
dendritic cells, B cells, and Macrophages
What do antigen presenting cells present antigen on?
MHC II
What do dendritic cells present antigen to?
naïve T cells
What do B cells present antigen to?
T helper cells
What do macrophages present antigen to?
T helper cells
Which professional antigen presenting cells are easier to activate?
B cells and macrophages
Where are immature dendritic cells found?
in tissues
What are immature dendritic cells high in?
intracellular MHC II and Fc receptors
What happens once immature dendritic cells take up antigen?
they rapidly mature and migrate to the T cell area of lymphoid tissue
Where are mature dendritic cells found?
in the T cell area of lymphoid tissue
What are mature dendritic cells high in?
surface MHC II, costimulatory molecules and cytokine production
What are mature dendritic cells low in?
Fc receptors
What is a Langerhans cell?
immature dendritic cells in the epidermis
What is the difference in antigen presentation between dendritic cells and follicular cells?
they trap antigens and hold them up for B cells where as dendritic cells take in the antigens
Where are follicular dendritic cells located?
they are stationary in the B-cell zone of lymphoid follicles
