mechanism of action
inhibits norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake in synaptic space
indications
depression, insomnia, fibromyalgia/ chronic back pain, DM neuropathy
adverse effects
anticholinergic effects (blurry vision, dilated eyes, dry mouth, constipation), sedation, orthostatic hypotension, seizures, weight gain, excessive sweating, QT prolongation
contraindications
preg C, hyperthyroidism, seizures, BPH, urinary/bowel retentions, glaucoma
RN considerations
4-8 weeks until maximum therapeutic effect, sig risk of intentional OD
patient education
chew gum/ sip water/ exercise/ increase fiber to help with anticholinergic effects
