Anticoagulant and drugs acting on platelets Flashcards
What does Warfarin do?
Inhibits synthesis of coagulation factors II, VII IX and X
What does Heparin do?
Herparin binds to antithrombin II and increase its effects. Anti-thrombin II inhibits thrombin and factor Xa
How does ASA work and what effects does it have?
Action: Inhibits and deactivates COX
Effects:
- Prevent platelet aggregation
- Prostagladin favoring antiaggregatory effects
What type of drug is clopidogrel?
Irreversible P2Y12 antagonist
How does P2Y12 antagonists work and what effects does it have?
Action: Inhibit ADP to bind to P2Y12-receptor which inhibits the activation of GP IIb/IIIa receptor
Effects
-Platelets can no longer bind to fibrogen and each other
How does dipyridamole work?
Action:
- Inhibits phosphodiesterase, which decreases the degregation of cAMP which inhibits platelets
- Inhibits uptake of adosine into erythrocytes -> more adosine avalible to inhibit platelets
How does GPIIb/IIIa antagonists work?
Action
-Inhibits binding of fibrogen to GP IIb/IIIa -> inhibition of aggregation
