Anti-cancer drugs Flashcards
What type of drug is mustine?
Alkylating agent
What type of drug is 5-Fluorouracil
Antimetabolite (purine or pyrimidine analogue)
What type of drug is Paclitaxel)
Taxane
What type of drug is Daunorubicine?
Anthracycline (topo II inhibitor)
How does Erlotinib work?
It is a protein kinase inhibitor which potently inhibts the intracelullar phosphorylation of EGFR tyrosin kinase.
It then blocks the activated and mutated kinase domain of EGDR which leads to apoptosis
How does rituximab work?
Cases B-cell depletion by inducing B-cell lysis and blocking B-cell activation.
How does alkylating agents and platina compounds work?
They form covalent crosslinks in DNA, which means that the cell doesn’t pass the G1/G2 checkpoint and the cell goes into apoptosis
How does antimetabolites work?
Inhibits synthesis of DNA and mRNA by mimicing nucleoic acids and is incorparated into DNA. Cells then thinks that mutation has occures and the cell goes into apoptosis
What two types of plant alkoloids are there?
Vinca alkoloids and taxane
How does taxane work?
Bind to tubeli in the cell skeleton and inhibits depolymerization which means the cell skeleton is abnormally stable and cell division cannot occur
How does vica alkoloids work?
Binds to tubeli in the cell skeleton and inhibits polymerization of MT which means celldivision cannot occur
How does anthracyclines work?
Binds to DNA-/RNA syntheisi and inhibits synthesis by stabilising DNA topomerase complexes which does not ligate DNA back together
